How to Become a Certified Bookkeeper
CPB licensure lasts one year, after which you must demonstrate that you completed all necessary continuing education credits and pay an annual membership fee. CPB credentials require 24 hours of continuing education per year of licensure. In terms of hiring potential, there is little difference between the two designations.
The first step to becoming a CB or CPB is making the decision to do so. Earning your credential is going to take time, effort and patience, but the career advantages you’ll gain are well worth the certified bookkeeper effort. To become a CB, AIPB asks for a registration fee of $25 for members and $60 for nonmembers. The organization also offers one-, two-, and three-year memberships at discounted prices.
Attend a Training Class
Candidates must pay an additional $98 to purchase the two workbooks, which contain the exams for parts three and four. More than 1,000 credit courses are offered each semester in more than 200 career and technical programs. Tri-C also grants short-term certificates, certificates of proficiency and post-degree professional certificates. Financial Accounting progresses through seven modules; each one includes some case studies, key lessons to learn, and exercises and quizzes to cement and test your knowledge.
In addition, you may also help with payroll, purchasing, and outstanding accounts. After successfully passing the exam and meeting all of the requirements, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. You’ll also be able to put the letters “CPB,” which stand for certified public bookkeeper, behind your name.
